David Niven stars in this gripping drama about a war hero who finds himself facing disgrace and ruin in a military courtroom...
Major Carrington (David Niven) won the Victoria Cross at Tobruk and has devoted his life to the British Army, but his wartime heroics have caused deep resentment amongst certain senior officers who did not see action - especially his base commander Colonel Henniker (Allan Cuthbertson).
So when money goes missing from his barracks' safe - and Carrington is found in a potentially compromising situation with Captain Alison Graham (Noelle Middleton) - his enemies seize the chance to destroy him.
Hauled before the court, Carrington admits to taking the money - but still pleads not guilty. His C.O. is willing to lie under oath to discredit him. Now he must rely on his disturbed wife Val (Margaret Leighton) to clear his name - not knowing that she has her own reasons for wanting to see him found guilty...
